Tampa bomb squad to detonate ‘suspicious item’ found on Cypress Street

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Tampa police closed a portion of Cypress Street Friday afternoon due to a reported “suspicious item.”

The Tampa Police Department said it and Tampa Fire Rescue were investigating the situation.

News Channel 8 confirmed plans by the police department bomb squad to detonate the item. However, it remains unclear if the device is explosive.

Police closed West Cypress Street from North Rome Avenue to North Oregon Avenue, mere blocks away from Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park.

Drivers are asked to find an alternative route.
