Tennis Set to Open Season at No. 5 Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The University of Houston Tennis program will open its 2023 season at noon Tuesday against No. 5 Texas A&M in College Station from the Mitchell Tennis Center. 
 

Houston will face Texas A&M in its season opener for a second consecutive year. The Aggies defeated the Cougars 7-0 in the 2022 opener.

FALL RECAP
All ten members of the Houston Tennis program saw action, with three Cougars making their Houston debut, tabbing a total of 38 singles wins and 22 in doubles. 
 
Junior Laura Slisane led the team in singles, tallying six victories in the fall. In their first fall season as Cougars, Sonya Kovalenko and Sophie Schouten made an impression picking up five wins each to their name. 
 
In doubles, sophomore Elena Trencheva and freshman Gabriela Cortes led the Cougars with six doubles victories, followed by the pair of Kovalenko and Slisane with five. 
 
UP NEXT
Houston will head out for a weekend road trip to take on Baylor and UTRGV in Waco, Texas, at the Hurd Tennis Center on the campus of Baylor. The Cougars will face the Bears at noon Saturday, followed by a noon Sunday match against the Vaqueros.
 
The Cougars will open their home slate at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility against Elon at 10 a.m., on Friday, Jan. 27.
