Texas A&M transfer safety Smoke Bouie commits to Georgia

Former four-star recruit Smoke Bouie was a big target for Georgia during the 2022 class, but ultimately the Bainbridge native signed with Texas A&M. Bouie’s time in College Station was short-lived, and on DAY, Bouie decided to become a Bulldog after all. Bouie has announced that he is transferring to Georgia after taking a visit on Sunday, Dec. 18. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound safety will arrive in Athens after playing in seven games for the Aggies in 2022 and has three years of eligibility remaining.

Bouie becomes the third transfer portal pick-up for the Bulldogs this offseason after Georgia did not add a player from the portal last offseason. Bouie worked his way onto the field as a reserve for Texas A&M in 2022 and ended the season with 4 tackles and 1 pass break-up. He was expected to compete for first-team reps in 2023 given that the Aggies are losing starter Jaylon Jones to the NFL. Bouie earned an invitation to the 2022 All-American Bowl after capping off his high school career with 21 tackles, 7 passes defended, 2 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions, 1 fumble recovery and 1 blocked field goal. He also contributed to Bainbridge’s offense by catching 28 passes for 578 yards and 10 touchdowns to help the Bearcats win nine games and reach the GHSA Class AAAA quarterfinals.

Bouie was rated as the third-best safety in the 2022 class and the seventh overall prospect in the state of Georgia for that cycle, according to 247 Sports’ ratings. Bouie was also a three-sport athlete in high school thanks to also participating in track and basketball.
